Greg Miller, VP and General Manager of JDSU’s Authentication Solutions Group, has been on the road recently to present at authentication industry events targeting growing problems regarding counterfeiting around the globe.

On March 1, Greg presented an online monitoring study at the Product Authentication & Security Summit (PASS) in Shanghai, PRC. The presentation focused on the growing  problem of online sales of counterfeit products in the smart phone market. Greg took a deep dive into online selling activity for Apple, HTC, Samsung and Blackberry branded smart phones to demonstrate tools that identify, track and report suspicious selling activity on questionable online auction and discount market sites. The presentation and actual study results were widely discussed at the Summit. The brand monitoring solution that Greg presented is the result of a collaborative partnership between JDSU and New Momentum.

Greg also presented the concept for a cost-efficient and smart phone-based digital authentication system that helps an inquirer instantly substantiate the authenticity of an identification document. The growing use of counterfeit IDs is a problem occurring in every country, whether it involves students acquiring fake ID cards or adults acquiring false national IDs or travel documents such as passports. Greg’s presentation was designed for the first CARTES North America conference in Las Vegas on March 5, and the third CARTES Asia conference in Hong Kong on March 28. At both of these events, JDSU had a booth to showcase the multiple physical and digital solutions available for the Identification Cards and Documents market.
